From Farming to Flipping

Jason worked as a welder for several years and then transitioned to rice farming and raising cattle. During this time, he developed an interest in construction and fixing up houses. Meanwhile, Shanna began her career in education. She started as an elementary teacher, then became a school counselor. She later started her own business creating counseling materials for other school counselors.

While living in El Campo, Texas, Jason and Shanna bought their first flip for only $19,000! Most considered this house to be a tear down, but Shanna and Jason enjoyed restoring and transforming it into a beautiful home. Shanna’s love of design, combined with Jason’s love of building, made them the perfect flipping team.

In 2013 they gave birth to their sweet son, Evan. In 2014 they moved to Victoria, Texas and began flipping houses in the beautiful historical district. They were unanimously chosen for the Rehabilitation Award by the Victoria Preservation Committee in 2017. Their most famous flip in downtown Victoria was featured on For the Love of Old Houses in 2019.

At the end of 2020, they bought their first flip house in the charming Hyde Park neighborhood of Austin, Texas. Jason and Shanna both fell in love with the neighborhood and the sweet home they created, making it an easy decision not to sell!

Evan’s Playhouse

Like most kids, Evan has always loved imaginary play. He thoroughly enjoyed the many pretend play opportunities he encountered while visiting various children’s museums. His favorite areas were always the little towns and playhouses.

With his second birthday quickly approaching, Shanna and Jason decided to invest in a playhouse. They searched and searched for the perfect one but couldn’t find it. They didn’t want a kit, a shell, or something cheaply made. The playhouses that got close to checking off everything on their list were at least $20,000, but still lacked some of the important features, character, and fun details they desired. This led them to take the plunge and build their own.

After lots of work, Evan’s perfect playhouse was complete. The playhouse was the main attraction at every playdate hosted by Shanna. Evan and his friends absolutely adored it and spent countless hours playing in it. The parents appreciated the added comfort provided by the a/c unit, high ceiling, and bench seating. This fun, engaging space provided endless hours of entertainment for the kids, giving the adults a much-needed break. Evan continued to enjoy it up until the day he moved at 7 years old.

The Birth of the Quinn

In 2019, Shanna was asked to participate in her son’s school fundraising program. She helped raise money through organizing children’s events and securing items for the silent auction. When a local builder couldn’t commit to building a playhouse for the silent auction, Jason agreed to do it.

Jason and Shanna applied all the lessons learned from building Evan’s playhouse to the design and construction of the Quinn. It had all the same bells and whistles, while being a more manageable size for transporting it to the lucky winner’s yard. They knew their idea of donating a playhouse would be a hit with families in their school and community. However, they were pleasantly surprised when this item brought in the most money out of all items in the silent auction.

After the buzz generated at the auction, Shanna and Jason were approached by several parents wanting to purchase a playhouse. They were in the middle of their largest flip to date and couldn’t commit to adding this service to their business at the time. Now, due to the insanely competitive Austin housing market, they’ve decided to pause the flipping side of their business and focus on building playhouses.
